The Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program (Muskie)

The Edmund S. Muskie Graduate Fellowship Program provides opportunities for graduate students and professionals from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan for one-year non-degree, one-year degree or two-year degree study in the United States. Eligible fields of study for the Muskie Program are: business administration, economics, education, environmental management, international affairs, journalism and mass communication, law, library and information science, public administration, public health, and public policy. Muskie 2007 Finalists Depart for the United States
On August 6, the 2007 cohort of Muskie fellows arrived in Washington D.C. to start their fellowships. They participated in a four day pre-program orientation at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC during which they took part in sessions ranging from housing and personal finance to academic success and finding an internship. The orientation concluded with a reception at the Hyatt Regency, at which DC Embassy officials, US State Department representatives, and local hosts gathered to congratulate the Muskie finalists.
US Embassy and Armenian Government Officials Celebrate 15 Years of Muskie
On July 31, 2007, representatives from the US Embassy in Armenia, the Government of Armenia, and IREX Armenia joined Muskie fellows and alumni to celebrate the 15-year anniversary of the Muskie program. Since 1992, more than 340 Armenians have been awarded Muskie fellowships under the U.S. State Department-funded Muskie program. More than 60 of these alumni and current finalists joined the reception to learn of the various career opportunities available to them within Armenia’s Ministries and to network with Armenia’s State officials. read more
Former Muskie Alumnus Appointed Deputy Minister of Trade and Economic Development
On July 14, 2007 Minister of Trade and Economic Development of the Republic of Armenia Nerses Yeritsyan appointed Vahram Ghushchyan (Muskie '99) as Deputy Minister. Mr. Ghushchyan will oversee the development of economic policies and Armenia's external economic policies.
Mr. Ghushchyan received a Bachelors Degree from the Armenian State Economic University and a Masters Degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He also holds a Ph.D. in Economics from University of Colorado at Boulder. An expert in health economics, econometrics, and international trade, Mr. Ghushchyan has authored numerous publications in health economics. In addition to his ministerial responsibilities, Mr. Ghushchyan continues to teach Economics at the American University of Armenia.
Minister of Education and Science Appoints Muskie Alumna as Advisor
Minister of Education and Science Levon Mktrchyan appointed Ms. Nvard Manasyan (Muskie ‘00) as his advisor in March, 2007
