 Editors and designers from 10 print and on-line media outlets from Yerevan and regions actively participated in the symposium on “Advanced Newspapers Design” on March 23-27, 2009 organized by IREX/CMSPA conducted by CMSPA consultant Edward Henninger. Designers and editors from Yerevan and region-based print outlets received an opportunity to review and discuss issues related to different aspects and trends of modern web and newspaper design.
During the training Mr Henninger thoroughly covered QuarkXPress and InDesign software programs and taught attendees how to prepare templates, style sheets and libraries. Mr. Henninger carefully explained how to use negative space, photos, graphics, unity, color, structure of newspapers and tasked participants to do visual thinking, thumb nailing, planning and communicating. In addition to practical exercises in QuarkXPress and InDesign software participants also reviewed the designs of represented newspapers and received constructive critique from the consultant and each other comparing design elements with best foreign newspaper design samples. On the last day the training focused on web design principles and techniques by which later on participants reviewed and analyzed their web sites. At the end of the training contest was announced among the participants for the selection of a unique design for the CMSPA May supplement. The best participating design will be used in production of the supplement on Yerevan Mayor Elections.
